NCC Limits Energy Value

NCC Limits Energy Value

In the upcoming NCC 2022, a new performance requirement for energy usage aims to promote energy efficiency by limiting the energy value of a building's domestic services to a maximum of 70% of the overall energy value, under certain conditions.

The regulation encourages a more sustainable approach to building design and operations and can be met only with close collaboration between architects, builders and building engineers.

We are already working on a variety of new approaches to accommodate these new design principals into our work.

One of the key new approaches will be to work closely with our partners on building envelopes designed to enhance insulation levels and airtightness to minimise heat transfer between the interior and exterior.

Passive design strategies such as using natural ventilation and thermal mass to reduce the need for mechanical heating and cooling will also help achieve energy value for domestic services.

Optimised HVAC designs and efficient energy management systems will be as important as educating building occupants on energy savings measures.

As passionate as we are about reducing our own carbon footprint we know the bigger difference can be made in our industry.

We are looking forward to working with like-minded partners in these projects which are compliant with the new regulations and are better for the environment.
