Building Information Modelling (BIM) has become a cornerstone of modern engineering, enabling collaboration, efficiency, and innovation across the built environment. We sat down with Srinivas Chakravarthy, our new National BIM Manager, to hear his insights into how BIM is shaping building services.
Inspired by Technology and Sustainability
Srinivas’ pathway into engineering, and specifically into BIM, was driven by a passion for combining technology with design. Early in his career, he was fascinated by how digital tools could transform complex ideas into practical solutions.
“I realised BIM had the potential not just for improving design accuracy and coordination, but also for optimising energy performance and supporting smarter facility management. That connection between innovation, sustainability, and real-world impact inspired me to pursue a career in BIM.”
Transforming the Way Building Services Are Designed
Traditionally, building services were developed using 2D drawings with limited coordination between disciplines. Srinivas explains how BIM has completely redefined that process.
"Now with a shared 3D model for architecture, structure, and MEP it promotes real-time collaboration between teams resulting in fewer clashes and errors thanks to integrated design resulting in more efficient outcomes that save time and resources. The result is a design process that is faster, more accurate, and more resilient."
Collaboration Through BIM
Collaboration is at the heart of BIM’s value. According to Srinivas, its biggest strength lies in how it connects people and processes through:
This holistic approach ensures that all stakeholders work together seamlessly.
Enabling Smarter Buildings
For Srinivas, BIM’s impact goes beyond design and construction. It paves the way for smarter, more responsive buildings:
Why erbas™?
When asked why he has joined us at erbas™, Srinivas highlights our vision:
“I was particularly inspired by the way erbas™ uses BIM to deliver smarter, more efficient buildings while reducing environmental impact. The role aligns perfectly with my background in digital engineering and my passion for creating greener, smarter buildings.”
Being part of a forward-thinking, collaborative team was another value add.
Beyond Work
Outside of work, Srinivas enjoys playing tennis and hiking.
