Benalla Police Station

The town of Benalla in Victoria was one of the main scenes in the hunt for the Kelly Gang and Joe Byrne's body, which was propped up against the original Benalla police station walls for the press to take photos, is today seen as one of the earliest police press events in Australia.

$28.8 million

The current station, built in the 1950s and one of the oldest 24/7 in-operation law enforcement built environments of the state, required major works.

Designed by Foreground Architecture, using its trauma-informed principles, the new Benalla Police Station will replace the existing, outdated facility with a state-of-the-art headquarters designed to better serve the growing community.

The modern, purpose-built station will feature welcoming and safe spaces for both police officers and the community.

Key elements include a reimagined memorial garden and an Incident Police Operation Centre, which will enhance regional emergency management and response capabilities.

This upgraded facility is designed to meet the evolving needs of the community and provide local police with the resources and environment they need to operate effectively and efficiently.
